We had family parties too. Once a month with presents for everyone. Taught the kids to be generous too. The biggest one was always on our anniversary, which happened to be very close to Christmas. Made the kids feel not so left out when they returned to school after Christmas. It drove one elder crazy, but he couldn't do anything, as it was our legitimate anniversary and ok to celebrate, according to the borg.

Those begging parts were always so embarrassing. I have never seen a church go over how the older ones can leave their estate to them when they die. Problem is, it still seems to work. We had a few die and leave a bundle to the cong. Kinda like buying your way into the new system?
And then the stoeies about someone leaving an expensive diamond ring in the contribution box at the convention. I wonder if that is true or if they are just hinting?

We gave gifts regularly to our children and spouse. We also gave gifts to worldly family members. As far as jws go, we often brought a gift when visiting at their homes.
I'm sure we could have done better, but I really feel that giving gifts is fun.
i had my tms tonight.
for those who don't know me, i no longer believe, but have only just begun my slow fade.. the meeting was unbearable.
first there was the brother who happily pointed out that i'd missed two meetings recently and that he was keeping track.
I havwn't attended for some time, but the last few meetings I went to, I learned to be occupied with other thoughts. If nothing else, I would just read the Bible. I would look up the scripture they told me to and just keep reading. My husband actually got offended by this, so I had to pretend to pay attention too.
There were those meetings that I wanted to scream and run out, but you have to learn to tune out. Make lists, study other people, anything to occupy the mind.

Basically, it would be nice to have superior qualities in all areas than animals do. The sight of an eagle, the hearing and smelling ability of a good hound dog. I'm with openfireglass that the ability to fly would have ro be number one on the list. And what about the ability to swim and leap through the water like a dolphin.
I'm sure there's way too many to mention them all.

i was officially installed as a member of kiwanis international last evening.
one other member and i had been attending since spring as members but never had the ceremony.
they finally got around to it this week.

The only thing I know about Kiwanas is they set up BBQ stands close by our house. I always buy their BBQ, it's great and I know it goes to charity. Enjoy your new found friends and it's great to help out your community.
last night, my kids had appointments to have their hair cut, i wanted them to look decent before school starts.
as i sat there, realizing i needed one myself, a trim to say the least, i went ahead and asked if she had time for my hair.
thankfully she had the time.
I donated once. It is a very good feeling. My hair grows fast, so I hope to do so again soon.
Good feeling to offer something so personal, isn't it?
